                            The History of Sherm El Sheikh 

The history of Sherm El Sheikh is highly connected to its strategic location that lead to the transformation of the small fishing village into a major part of the Egyptian Navy. Sharm El Sheikh was occupied by Israel in 1956 during the Suez Crisis, but Egypt restored it back in 1957. The United Nations is known to station a peacemaking force there until 1967 when the Six-Day War took place and Sharm was recaptured by the occupying nation of Israel. Sharm El Sheikh was liberated in the Egypt- Israeli Peace treaty in 1979 and became part of Egypt once again.

 Sharm was a small fishing village until 1967, but after the construction of the town of Ofira by Israel, a wave of commercial and architectural development started to take action in the area to attract global tourism and capital investment. One of the most famous projects built in  Sherm El Sheikh is the famous Naama Bay Hotel.

After the regain of the entire Sinai Peninsula in the 70s, the Egyptian Government started a series of projects to remake the city of Sharm into a tourist destination, and today it is one of the most famous destinations for foreigners visiting Egypt. 3. Dahab
